Home, home, sweet home!

The last few days we had in New York City, was spent shopping? shopping? and? shopping.
In between the shopping we managed to see the Statue of Liberty, as we took a boat to Staten Island. We also met up with some of our previous neighbors from Denmark and saw ground zero ? which isn?t really ?ground zero? anymore, because they?re rebuilding it all; bigger, higher and better ? the way only the US can do it. At first I was a bit shocked, because I couldn?t see why they would ?ruin? the place where people go to reminisce, but then again? it really does send a strong signal; ?We won?t give up ? you didn?t break us!? We bought a small magazine with pictures and short texts from 9/11 and it really opens your eyes when you?re actually there, compared to ?just? seeing it on the television?
I remember watching a movie about one of the airplanes that were meant to crash into the white house, and the passengers finding out and then sacrificing themselves in order to save them people outside the airplane? As we talked about it, one of our previous neighbors, mentioned to me that ?at least that?s the official story..? because, I?m not in doubt, that the US would shoot down the airplane, if they already knew that two previous airplanes had crashed into World Trade Centre and that this airplane was off track and heading for an important federal building. How crazy to think about? I certainly wouldn?t want to be in charge of making the decisions of ?who?s more important??
My dad however said that via the black box, it was possible to trace the true reason for the airplane crashing and it was because of the passengers who took over the flight and sacrificed themselves.
Still, it?s intriguing to think about because it seems so surreal and terrible.

I also went and got my legs waxed at a salon. Do I need to elaborate on the level of pain or does ?waxing? sound painful enough as it is? Nevertheless, I almost sent prayers to Buddha and whoever else I could think of, to make it stop in between many of the most terrible words I could think of. Thomas was just standing in the corner of the room with a smug smile as the Asian woman babbled on about ?her son having a girlfriend despite only being 18, and that they have been in the same Church since they were 2.? I endured and survived, and smelled like chocolate the rest of the day because of the ?Chocolate-soothing-wax?. The result is lovely and that?s really what matters in the end πŸ˜‰

Here are some of the results from my shopping-sessions:

The bracelet on the right bottom says “How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news!”
The book on the left bottom is called “Ophelia” and is a modern version of Shakespeare’s Hamlet, seen from the point of view of the girl Hamlet fell in love with.
(How cute are the shoes?? They were only 20 dollars, rough estimation of about 100 kr!)

What can I conclude from being in New York?
.. well?. I certainly didn?t buy a ?I <3 NY? t-shirt/mug/key chain/etc. I believe it can be a great city, for the right people? and maybe we just didn?t go to the right places nor meet the right people, but to me, it was much too busy, too crowded, too many cars honking and driving like maniacs and just such a stressful atmosphere compared to the other states we?ve been in.
But to make matters fair; we didn?t stumble into any new crazy angry people and we did get an upgrade to a lovely suite, regarding my last post. We also found a delicious restaurant around the corner; and they had a trillion amazing shops.
What have I learned from being in the US?
1) Ped Xing means Pedestrians crossing!

2) Ordering both an appetizer and an entré makes you want to vomit because the sizes are ridonkulous (my word) huge.
3) The issue of giving tips to waiters/tresses is both good because it often gives you a much more pleasant service and it?s not a problem to change some of the dishes as it would have been in Denmark. It?s bad because I never know how much to give and I don?t want to offend them nor help myself to the road of poorness.
4) 90% of things are cheaper..
5) .. yet the US makes me poor because of all the temptations that just won?t leave me alone.
6) I have learned that I would not have a problem living in the US (especially not in L.A.) because I generally really like it here, despite my previous judgments about Americans.
7) There are ridonkoulously many churches here and I almost feel bad for not going to any of them.
8) That surfing is A LOT harder than it looks, a lot scarier and so much fun.

9) It?s a lot easier just to introduce myself as ?Anderson? instead of ?Andresen? because they don?t get it anyway and will spell it the first way despite actually spelling ?an..dREsEn?.? out loud.

10 ) I have a bad habit, that I believe I’ve inherited from my mum, of collecting the shampoos/conditioners/body lotions from various hotels…. This is a picture of some of them that I found while unpacking my first bag….. Sweet lord!

We are currently in the airplane, going from New York to Reykjavik. We have 9 seats (Yipppiiiiee πŸ˜€ ) to ourselves, which is absolutely fan-freaking-tastic, I am so happy. As I mentioned previously I really don?t like being cramped between strangers (nor my family to be honest) and this little extra space means the world to me. The lights are off and it would be ?easy? to catch some zzz?s soon, but I?m much too excited about returning to Denmark. I can?t wait to see familiar faces, to be able to drink (How sad to think that I actually miss this, but I?m so sick and tired of always being ?too young?!) I can?t wait to sleep in my own bed without constantly waking up because my sister or brother is turning in their beds or because people are shouting outside our windows. I can?t wait to stay up late just doing whatever I want and not having to care about disturbing other people because of the light or the noise or the distractions.
I certainly can?t wait to get back to my job, because I really do miss it as I do with the people there.
Mostly I can?t wait to get back and just feel at home, unpacking, sleep in? until I?m on the road again; july 27th till the 31st, where I?m going to Norway to visit the most amazing girl in the world.

I?m also planning on going to the UK to see the Webster Campus there, considering I might be attending that one next year.. I wish I could freeze time, because I?ll have to schedule this in between my plans of Norway and Thailand, not to mention work, concerts and the general importance of applying to scholarships.
I got one scholarship already, from Webster University which is a great and really appreciated help, now I just need a few more and I?ll be good to go. πŸ˜€

As a reference to my very first real post, I now have three fully packed and very large bags. Ups! Completely worth it though! πŸ˜‰

I WISH I COULD SLEEP, I?m just so excited about going home!!! Sigh! πŸ˜›

I hope everyone had a great weekend, with their partying, birthdays and chilling. I truly wish I could?ve been there!

Biggest love sprinkled with a trillion hugs

Anna

P.s. Bless my family, I love them so much! I can?t elaborate enough on how grateful I am of having such an incredible family and being able to go on such a trip here is a blessing. Farfar, if you?re reading this too (I heard your secretary printed out a few of my previous posts!) thank you so much for everything. I love you too!

P.p.s. 1000 views in two weeks?! Wow!! Thanks guys!!! πŸ˜€ It definitely motivates me to keep my blog updated! πŸ™‚

Birthday & New York.

July 11th was my sisters sweet 16th birthday πŸ™‚ The night before we watched Soul Surfer, which is a movie based on a true story. It’s about the life of Bethany Hamilton, a surfer whom at the age of 13 lost her arm to a shark attack. It was an absolute incredible movie, despite me being scared to the point where I had to leave the room because of my phobia of sharks. (Especially because right before the shark bit her arm off, you could see her and her friend from below the water and before I even knew what the movie was about I exclaimed to my siblings that “God, I hate when they show us people from this angle because it always reminds me of sharks and it really creeps me out!” Literally 5 seconds later her arm was eaten. )
However, the movie had such a good view upon life and Bethany Hamilton is such an inspiration, not only because she survived, but because she survived and grew so much stronger because of it. I can definitely recommend this movie. πŸ™‚

We celebrated Mette’s birthday by first having a large breakfast at the hotel, where dad and I had previously gone and bought balloons, flowers and a cute cake (which was originally neon green… unfortunately dad dropped it, so the hotel had to fix the icing so it was merely a boring brown colour) and presents.

Later we went to an adventure park. I am sure it would have been a great experience, had we not gone to Universal Studios previously because that really set our standards way up high.
After that we went shopping (Oh lord, my wallet hates me!). Once again, I was a great customer in “Forever 21”, where I bought multiple dresses, countless jewelry, shirts and skirts.
I am confident that if we had “Forever 21” in Denmark, both H&M and Pieces would become meh-places compared. Especially because it’s.so.incredibly.cheap and really gorgeous!

Later we went to a restaurant, where the others had sushi. Again. Christ! The deserts completely made up for that though! Thomas ordered a cake that was humongous… and for the first time ever, he didn’t finish his plate. Both Mette and I had the most delicious Crème brûlée, which were beyond imagination. They.were.so.good!

Next day, we didn’t really do anything but shopping (If I mentioned that my wallet hated me previously, it despises me with great intensity now!) and checked into a hotel closer to the airport…
There was an intense storm last night and I have never in my life seen that many lightnings! Whenever you would blink, you would miss something. It was incredible and beautiful. The whole sky would be lit up constantly and at points the sky even seemed green. I am not sure why this happened (if anyone happens to know it, please enlighten me :-)) but it was most definitely beautiful! My dad and I took a few photos and actually managed to capture some of the lightnings;

Today we flew to New York!
And… sadly, I wish I could write “I love this city – I am never going to leave!” Unfortunately this is not how I feel currently. Everything that could go wrong…. didn’t go wrong…  but it definitely didn’t take the turns we had all hoped for.
First, we check in to our 5-star hotel (!) and as we are at the front desk, we ask simple questions and this is pretty much how it goes:
Receptionist: “We have two king size beds ready for you”
Us: .. but we’re 5 people and we specifically asked for queen beds? (As none of us are too keen about sharing beds and blankets – which is what they do here)
Receptionist: We don’t have queen beds!
(This they didn’t even mention this to us despite having asked about this prior to booking)
Us: Okay… well, can we have a roll-away bed then?
Receptionist: That will be 65 dollars per night. (Which has been free at all our previous hotels!)
Us: ……… Okay …. Is there internet here?
Receptionist: That will be 17 dollars per room, per item. (Here it is to be mentioned that we have 7 items… )
Us: … Okay … What about the view?
Receptionist: Uhm… yes…

… ??
So we go to our rooms, trying to keep our spirits high… As we enter the rooms are TINY… We are talking about a 5-STAR HOTEL and we can’t even see where the roll-way bed will fit because there is no space. The view is somewhat like this:

… quite astonishing wouldn’t you say? πŸ˜‰

So we are all a bit disappointed at this point, because the hotel has been really expensive and it does feel a bit like “wasted money” compared to some of the other hotels we have stayed at, that despite having less stars were much better. We decide to go for dinner and explore a bit more of the famous New York City.
We find an Italian restaurant as we are all starving, but quickly the restaurant fills up with people and hence noise, children screaming, waiters being rude, even adults running back and forth and a constant “jungle drumming” which I believe was meant to be music. Not soothing for any of our moods.

However, the worst happens as we leave the restaurant and heads for Broadway.
We have previously been warned about afro-americans standing with their music trying to make you listen to it and as soon as you do it they will literally force the money out of you. So when we see one approaching us, Mette and I quickly try to look invisible. He starts talking to my dad saying “Buy this my brother from another mother“, my dad kindly declines and proceeds forward as we are trying to reach the booth where they sell drinks.
The man therefore mutters some not so kind words and starts asking my mum instead… My mum answers: “No I don’t want it and stop harassing us” .. which according to my opinion was not the right thing to say.  Both my sister and I are of the opinion that you just smile, shake your head and continue walking. So the man gets REALLY aggressive and starts calling my mum for white trash which is OF COURSE completely uncalled for. Then we all flee to my dad, but he follows us and continues with his harsh words. So my dad turns around and says “F… off“, which I will agree, may also not have been the smartest thing to say.
However, the man goes crazy. He shouts at my dad; “Is it because I’m black? You f… racist, you f… white trash”  etc.
I believe we could all have shrugged off the “white trash”, but the fact that he called my dad a racist is so.far.from.the.truth.
My dad is my role model when it comes to that, because I can swear on my life that he would NEVER treat a person differently because of color/race. NEVER.
The man continues and we try to walk away, because we really do not want to make a scene, but he followed us with comments such as “Oh yeah, you better run you f.. racists”.
Luckily an afro-american woman joined in and started defending us and helping us out. Later she said that they do that, even to people who live here.
Which didn’t help my nerves. My hands were shaking and I was in such a shock that people would say such things. Especially, because it’s complete and utter bullshit! (Pardon my language!)
After that episode the temperature literally dropped 20 degrees (celcius) and we didn’t utter a word for a few very long minutes. Mette and I exchanged a few “What the f.. just happened?”-looks, because it seemed so surreal.

We continued our walk towards Broadway, but it wasn’t the same anymore. Dad, Thomas and I quickly began our walk home after having seen times square and went to the lobby where the internet is complimentary πŸ˜‰

So all in all New York has not impressed me – yet.
If I could flee to Los Angeles right now, I would do it without a moment of doubt. I really am in love with Los Angeles and would love to study there later. (Webster University has a campus there!)

However, I will try to keep my mind open and be positive the next few days and hopefully New York will show me a different side.
This day was a bummer, but one must have such days to be able to differ from the good days.

Hope you all had a much better day than us!

Much love,
Anna xx

Adventures of the Andresens

We made it to Denver!
However, first we had a night in Salt Lake City, which is the capital of Utah as well as being the  headquarters to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. On our way there, we decided to make a small stop, as a (what looked like high) man had recommended a ‘bar with live music where you could go swimming’ close by. Turns out we were driving through an expensive small ski sports area, and the bar wasn’t just a small bar, but a restaurant filled with lots of people right by a beautiful lake with a great band singing cheerful songs that made even the old ladies sang along to and waved their hands over the heads with their cocktails spilling all over πŸ™‚
The food was fine, however it was the lake that attracted my dad because of the boats – just like always.
So, we rented a boat and a tube. Dad was, of course, delighted as soon as we were in the boat. Mette and I were neutral. Thomas was begging to steer the boat and Mum was in the back not wanting to get anything wet (including herself!)

It was a lot of fun – and the best part was that it was freshwater, so it wasn’t a problem continuing our journey towards Salt Lake City straight after.
The trip wasn’t too bad at all, despite ‘being trapped’ within a car for 7 hours or so. Especially Thomas made it bearable and I do believe the picture of him below speaks for it self……

As we were driving through Salt Lake City looking for our hotel, we saw at least a dozen of churches, and numerous statues/monuments dedicated to Jesus Christ. It was most certainly surreal and something we would never see in Denmark!

When we got to the hotel, we were all in awe. None of us have been to such an amazing hotel before. I literally felt like I was Empress Elisabeth of Austria  strolling down the corridors and getting lost within our own rooms.

It was so breathtaking… now who would have thought such extravagance would appear in such a holy city where minimalism is believed to be the right way to heaven!
Unfortunately we only stayed there for one night, because then we were on our way to a ranch in the middle of the desert. More correctly “Moab”.
However, before that we made a small visit to the shopping mall, where I bought this gorgeous necklace/watch.

.. and yes, you’ve seen the rose necklace before, but they got completely entangled and I gave up untangling them before taking a quick photo so ignore that one πŸ™‚
I also bought a few presents, cough cough, which I of course wont show here in case the receivers read this… πŸ˜‰
After that we drove to the next hotel (Actuallly I drove πŸ˜€ picture proof:
)
towards this stunning place:

Which is where we stayed. However, it was a tad overrated and I can’t put a finger on anything, it just wasn’t what we had expected…

Before we arrived we agreed to get some dinner at what seemed like a nice steakhouse. We went in and all agreed on getting somewhat the same, which included a soup, a salad and a steak in that order. As I was getting through the salad, I was already full and I asked a rheotorical question; “How I was going to fit all of this!” … My dad who had not quite gotten the point of my comment, looked up with a puzzled look and answered “don’t worry you’ll get another plate??’ ….
Now believe me, I have never seen that big amount of french fries served in a restaurant before… The picture on the right is actually my plate AFTER I was done eating. A sad waste but by that point I was on the verge of almost vomiting.

We arrived at the hotel and got checked it. The next day we went… HORSE BACK RIDING. Finally!
The horses were so well groomed and good taken care of, I had no queries what so ever.
We all got wonderful horses – even my dad seemed to like his horse, despite it not wanting to move forward when no one else were moving.

My horse was absolutely adorable though. There was a lot of thinking behind every step, and often he would stop just to weigh his opportunities when it was very steep. He would literally stop, move his hoof, then pull it back to switch to the other leg. He was very thoughtful, however also on the verge of being a tad cheeky as he would walk into the big bushes so to get a good belly scratch. I have ridden throughout most of my childhood, but there was absolutely nothing I could do when he put his mind to that. All I could do was loose the reins and wait for him to be done while being thrown around in the saddle as he moved to get ‘just the right spot’.
So yes… I fell a little bit in love with Thunder (his name) and he only reminded and reinforced me of how much I miss being back in the saddle….

Thomas also got just the right horse for him. The guides said that “Butch” liked to save his energy and walk where he could see ahead of him. Thus meaning that his horse would spend every possible time to take small naps and would therefore often fall behind… Which is just what Thomas does as well πŸ˜‰
Here I caught Butch in one of his ‘saving energy moments’.

.. and now.. who can honestly say that horses don’t have personalities? I love these creatures.

Immediately after the ride we went on towards our mission to Denver and arrived here after about 8 hours.
I do apologize for any spelling mistakes, it’s terrible late now and it’s Mette’s birthday tomorrow… which is actually today.. so I better head for bed as I’m completely exhausted.

Missing many people!

LA last chapter – San Francisco!

Two days before we left LA, we went to Universal Studios which is one of the six major movie studios… However it is also an adventure/theme park in Hollywood.
I don’t even know where to start. When I heard my mum and dad talking about it, I thought “Oh lord, another must-do-because-you-are-a-tourist-thing” … and… I. was. blown. away. Seriously!

When we first got in (despite having some problems as my dad had accidentally ordered tickets for the 13th of July) without any trouble my mum was really excited about entering “The Horror House” …So we did and I didn’t even think it would be scary! But there I was: SCREAMING my heart out, trying to run my best around all the other people, so freaked out I thought I was going to die inside that little house! It was so real  and so incredibly scary! “Monsters/Werewolves/People with chainsaws (!) would hide behind walls and instantly jump out and touch you while shouting/making terrible noises…. I clung to my mum, half sobbing, half screaming with a hint of nervous laughter.
You would enter different rooms all the time, pushing people into different phobias. One room was completely filled with clowns just starring at you (not that scary.. for me at least) and another room would be like a freezer where you had to push dead bodies hanging from the ceiling away to continue on..and another would be a room with a big man with his chainsaw (that was on!) just cutting into “dead” humans with blood scattered everywhere. I can’t even describe to you how freaked out I was.
When we got out we were all sort of laughing, nervously trying to cover up for our embarrassing stunts inside the house. Except my dad of course. He’s ‘much too cool for that’…. πŸ˜›
Tivoli/Prater – go home!  Even the first thing we entered beat other theme parks by a trillion percentage.

Anyway, there were so many other adventures that we tried. Roller coasters, vertical raft clunges, 4-D movies (this is where you are sitting in a cinema and all of sudden the chairs are moving or water is sprayed out as someone in the movie sneezes!) but one of the things I was the most impressed with, was the Simpsons ride. We were lifted into an animated world in a VIRTUAL roller coaster! It was amazing! At one point I was sure we had done a 360, despite it being impossible! I can’t explain how surreal it was and how incredible it was made. That was definitely worth all the money in it self.

Furthermore, we went on a train that showed us the backstages of Universal Studios. So there we were, driving down Wisteria Lane – where “Desperate Housewives” is made!!!
Then all of sudden we were on the set of “War of the Worlds” a movie instructed by Steven Spielberg, (see the photos of the crashed airplane).
Also, not a lot of people know this, but I’m actually a complete sucker for “The Grinch” and there we were! In the middle of Whoville! With all the cute little houses and trees and candy canes.

We also saw Mr. Beans car! And how the car effects are often made in Fast and Furious with the fire and smoke and the tossing around with the cars…

As you can tell from the pictures (if you click them big) some of the details on the set were absolutely breathtaking. So much effort put into so many small details that makes a movie believable. Definitely an experience getting to see that in real life.

Oh and did I mention… we had front of the line passes? As we are a very impatient family, THAT was the reason the whole day was complete. Skipping ques that was said to take 60+ mins was incredible. It literally took us 1 min and 30 sek to skip a que that was said to last 75 mins… How lovely is that! I felt like such a VIP haha… πŸ˜€

We rounded the day off, by driving down Hollywood Boulevard, watching all the weird people, the limousines and the stars on the ground. We also saw the Hollywood sign, which means I can check that off my “How-to-be-a-true-tourist” list!

Next day was the 4th of July, which is the National Independence day in the US. People take it VERY seriously here, everyone was dressed in red/white/blue. We started the day of by going surfing again and… believe it or not: People actually brought the US flag to the beach just casually placing it in the sand next to them. I mean… seriously? What a different culture!!! I don’t even know if Denmark has a National day? (Okay, we probably do… but I for sure don’t know when!)
Anyway… back to the surfing part. This time both my dad AND MY MUM went surfing. My dad has tried somewhat similar before so he did quite well. My mum on the other hand hasn’t but she was amazing!
Now, how many people can say that their mum surfs??? It may not have looked the most elegant at all times (Sorry mum, I know you’re reading this), but the fact that she was able to “surf” to the beach twice was epic!

Now.. I am.. a very proud daughter πŸ™‚

Though, one very odd and mysterious thing that happened was despite me only being in the sun for approximately 40-50 mins without any protection, this happened:

… Oops …

So for the people who weren’t sure about my status on Facebook… This is the ‘bow’ I have on my back…. – even naked. πŸ˜›
Nah, it’s really not that bad. I’m not even slightly red on my back anymore and I believe the camera did enhance the colours slightly. Haha… At least that’s what I hope πŸ˜›

Anyway, at night we all dressed up and before we went out for dinner we had Mojitos (with alcohol… Yes I broke the law! πŸ˜› )
The dinner was okay, it was absolutely huuuge though… so despite me trying my absolutely best to finish my plate of pasta, I never actually made it to the bottom… It was as if whenever I took a bite, more pasta would just appear on my plate…
Oh but then we decided to have dessert later instead. πŸ˜€ .. and I’ll let you know ; It was amazing dessert. Just the way I liked it (because I made it myself πŸ˜› )
The blurry photo of me sticking my tongue out, was because my dad wanted to figure out how to use the camera….No comments about that one πŸ™‚

The next day we left to… SAN FRANCISCO.
We drove all the way up here, because we are all really tired of flying. There is just so much stress with the re-packing your bags, making sure you have no liquids, waking up early, checking in only to wait for hours, going through security…and so forth.
The good thing about driving there yourself means you decide when to leave, you don’t have to sit squeezed in between two strangers in a tiny seat and you decide when to take a break and get some fresh air… and it’s just so much more comfortable.

Our trip up here was good, despite making a small stop at “Jack in the box”. I will advise ANYONE that EVER considers to go in there to NOT. Think nasty… now I’ll let you know it’s nastier! It was so gross that despite being really hungry I couldn’t even eat the tiny fajita I had ordered. It was simply dripping with fat and it tasted like pure butter mixed with oil…. the lettuce was completely drenched with fat and the chicken (what chicken? I don’t think I could even taste the chicken because it was fried in so much fat!) was horrible.
Anyway… As we were all making our way to the table at Jack in the Box, we decided to go for the high tables/chairs. As I saw down, I saw Mette reaching out for another chair and quickly told her that we already had 5 chairs, as I could count 4 inclusive my own and my mum was already sitting down.
Or so I thought…. Turns out I had mistaken the height of my mum, thinking that she must be sitting on a chair already because she looked so short…… Ouch ….. There she was, standing up, with a face that read both confusion and laughter.
Sorry again!
We all made it out of there though, Thomas with one liter of diet coke which meant he had to pee the rest of the way.
(Notice the size difference from the normal bottle to  his cup!)

While driving there, we also made a short stop at a beach. It was so beautiful and we took some great photos.

πŸ™‚

We kept on driving until dinner-time, where we decided to make a stop at a Chinese restaurant.
As we walked, we were greeted by a small, very confused-looking old man.
He seemed very interested in getting us seated (we were the only people in the restaurant besides two others) and rushed to our table with some tea.
We decided to order a family menu to make it simple and give us a variety of choices. The menu included a “won tan soup”, which I have no idea what is.
He accepts our choice with a smile, but as my mum asks whether we can have a lemon fish instead of the opted fish in the menu he answers: “no fischh, no fischh” … We all look confused and wait for something more to come, but it doesn’t. As my mother asks again, he answers “H’orkay I go ask yesh”.
After a while he comes back and asks whether we would like the “sweet and spicy soup” instead of the other soup that was originally in the menu, and we all agree that it doesn’t really matter. As he begins to walk off (while still talking) he gives us the explanation: “gud gud, izz because iz a little moar eazy” …
We all sat in silence until that sunk in. Did he just ask whether we were okay with getting another soup – because it was easier to make? We all started laughing, because the honesty of his comment was just so brutal and hilarious. That is definitely the first time I’ve heard that one in a restaurant!!!

As we walked out of the restaurant we were all given fortune cookies. As my mum, sister, brother and I were all reading our sayings out loud, we heard a loud yelp a few steps ahead where dad was walking. He had eaten the whole cookie, not even noticing what it actually was until he tasted the paper.
So typical him πŸ˜›
Mine said that I would have “Good luck in personal affairs” and mum’s said something about “a new pair of shoes will turn your world around”. Now all she wants is a new pair of shoes…. haha….

We made it to San Francisco and we are staying at a great hotel with a wonderful view upon the city.
Today we went on a sightseeing bus, to get to know the city a little better…
Which of course sounds wonderful, except I have never been good with people telling me about the typical weather in all sorts of situations… so it didn’t take long for me to snooze away on the upper level of the bus. Speaking of the weather, it’s a lot colder here than it was in both St. Louis and Los Angeles… around 16-18 degrees so I had to wear my jacket today for the first time during daytime.
We made a stop at the “pier 39″, where we went and ate at Hard Rock Café.
The waitress was absolutely hilarious. She had short blue hair on one side of the head and long brown hair on the other side. As she was telling us about her ‘favourite items on the menu” she was dancing, moving around, telling my dad that she “knew he would like a beer” and that “he was the only one not getting meat for his lunch”.
The food was great though and so were the smoothies. We got to keep the glasses as a souvenir πŸ™‚

As we got back on the bus and back to the hotel, both Mette and I were hooked on finding a bookstore, as we are both almost done with the books we brought along from Denmark. So after first walking to a bookstore recommended by the desk in the Hotel, only to find out it was closed for good, we made it back and found another -great- bookstore.
It had ALL the books I have been wanting to read but that they don’t sell in Denmark.
I got this book:

Which is the 3rd book in a series, where I was sent the first book by my mum’s wonderful friend from Australia. I was so happy when I found it I almost cried… (okay, I don’t want to sound like a lunatic, but I was really excited about it!)
I also got this book:

Which I am SUPER excited about reading. πŸ™‚

The others went to a restaurant tonight, but I’ve been plagued with another headache combined with a constant shakiness so I stayed at home… I wasn’t too keen on sitting in a crowded restaurant with loud music.
So I decided to go to Walgreens instead just to pick up some sort of food that would compensate for the lack of dinner. As I walk into the store I ask the clerk when they are closing, just to make sure I’m not one of the customers that walk in on last minute and hold the whole staff behind on their schedule as they are about to close. The lady said that they wouldn’t close till about another hour and I thought to myself “that’s great, it wont take me longer than 10… maximum 15 mins and I’ll be out again”.
However..
That’s not what happened. All of sudden I heard “last customers please go to the cashier”…
Turns out, I was so excited about all the products they sell in the LOCAL supermarket I had walked up and down the aisles for an hour, just browsing and looking at all the interesting stuff…

I.. am… despite my previous prejudices, beginning to really… REALLY.. like the US. Even the small things, like their products in the supermarkets….
We’re off to begin our road trip to Denver. Hopefully I’ll have internet connection somewhere on the way there. It’s 2000 km such a of all.
On a completely different note, CONGRATULATIONS to my dad. The big deal they have been working on for what seems like YEARS now is finally official. You can read it in the newspapers today, it’s on the front page and on page 22/23 in Fyens Stiftstidende. I am so proud of what he has accomplished and I hope everything continues in the right direction.
Here’s a small extract from the newspaper:

If you made it through this huge essay of a post, congrats! I hope you are all doing well!

Lots of love
